As part of its strategic focus of working with government and civil society organisations to plug the knowledge gaps, MTN supported a career expo that sought to expose the youth and matriculants to different career opportunities in various fields, while providing them with practical advice on how they can get into these careers.

The expo took place at the Soweto campus of the University of Johannesburg.
MTN showcased career opportunities in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. As part of its participation in the Expo, MTN had a futuristic stand that featured cutting-edge technology that demonstrate how the company is leading the delivery of a bold new digital world in line with its vision.

The stand featured solutions such as virtual reality technology, also known as Google Glass, a photo booth and demonstrations of the Compu-Jector that the MTN Foundation has rolled out in a number of schools across the country.
MTN also gave away two Intel tablets at the event to lucky participants.
MTN also hosted two top performing matriculants from the class of 2015 at the company's head office in Fairlands, Johannesburg, on Thursday. The learners shadowed some executives and learnt more about the inner workings of the operation. The learners also spent some time with Mteto Nyati, MTN South Africa Chief Executive Officer, who shared insights on leadership and demonstrated the intricacies of running a mobile network operator with the learners.
Nyati says: “Spending time with the learners was insightful and refreshing, and it reinforced my belief in the future of this country. As MTN embarks on a journey of bringing a bold new digital world to its customers, it is equally important that we groom and incubate a leadership cadre that will take the industry and MTN to the next level.

“Our participation in this noble initiative is testament to our ongoing support of programmes that seek to address the knowledge gap by helping to develop a generation of young people that grow to become responsible adults who contribute meaningfully to the development of our economy.”
MTN, through its Foundation, actively participates in a number of youth development programmes including its entrepreneurship drive.
