Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport to table the 2014/15 Policy and Budget

The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Ms Dumisile Nhlengethwa will table the 2014/15 Policy and Budget Speech on Friday, 25th July 2014 at the Mpumalanga Legislature in Nelspruit starting  at 10h00.

The presentation of the Policy and Budget Speech is an opportunity for the MEC to outline the Departmental plans not only in the current financial year, but importantly in the Medium Term Expenditure Strategic Framework (MTESF) as the fifth term of the democratic administration commences.

The Department is the heartbeat of Government Infrastructure roll-out, a key program that Government has relied upon to stimulate economic activity thus creating much needed Job opportunities.

The National Department of Public Works has set a target of creating six millions job opportunities in the next five years through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

In this regard, MEC Dumisile Nhlengethwa will spell out how Mpumalanga province will contribute to this national target of job creation.

The Department also contribute in the achievement of rural development strategy through construction upgrading of rural roads networks. This network is important as it not only increase rural mobility but importantly acts a rural economic catalyst, true to assertion that a road is an economic enabler. The other related mandate is the building of new roads, rehabilitation and maintenance of the whole provincial road network.

 

The Department is increasingly called upon to support many municipalities in the province who are in distress through grading of access roads to social amenities such as grave yards, schools and clinics.

 

These and others, are the plans that MEC Nhlengethwa will outline in detail as she presents her maiden Policy and Budget Speech for 2014/15 financial year.
