Motsoaledi & Consumer Council in partnership to launch hand wash hygiene campaign to prevent diseases.

Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, in partnership with the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA), will on Monday (24/11/2014) launch the Public Hand Hygiene Campaign in a move to raise awareness on the importance of hand-washing in the prevention of infectious diseases such as Ebola.

This campaign seeks to educate members of the public, corporate and government institutions on the importance of hand hygiene as an important measure to prevent diseases and a practical infection control mechanism. Regular hand washing with clean water and soap, liquid hand wash and or sanitizers has proven to be the best defence against viruses including the prevention of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) from one person to the other.

"We call upon all South African to practice basic hygiene to protect themselves from deadly viruses by washing hands regularly with clean water and soap", Motsoaledi said.

There is No case of Ebola in South Africa. However the Ministry of Health recognises that "Prevention is better than cure" and therefore urge all the people of South Africa to prevent diseases and promote health.
