Title: Molefe: End-of-year message

END-OF-YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF THE NORTH WEST, DR POPO SIMON MOLEFE

Fellow South Africans,

Our collective actions throughout the years have placed us in a position where we can say without doubt that our province is now a better place than it was at the time of our liberation in 1994.

On a daily basis and in all corners of our province evidence is mounting that the goal of building a better life for all is now firmly within reach. Indeed, we are on course.

Acting together, we have succeeded in expanding access to basis services such as water, electricity and sanitation. We have also succeeded in ensuring that more and more people are registered for and do receive government social grants.

In addition, our attempts to create opportunities for economic participation by those who were historically marginalized continue to gather momentum. As we prepare to bid farewell to the year 2003 and the first decade of freedom, we can look back with pride on the road we have travelled since 1994. We can be proud of the legacy we have built.

I urge you to join the rest of South Africa as we begin to celebration ten years of freedom and democracy in our country.

I wish to take this opportunity, on behalf of the provincial government, to thank heartily all those patriots who have continued to lend a hand towards the collective objective of building a better province.

By taking part in campaigns such as Letsema they have made an indelible contribution in the reconstruction and development of our country. We are proud of their efforts.

Next year, as we will be ushering in the second decade of freedom, we will continue to rely on collective action in order to find appropriate responses he challenges we still face.

May we enter the year 2004 with renewed courage to work even harder towards our common goal of building a better life for all. Let us learn from our experiences of the past almost ten years of democracy and build on the solid foundation we have laid.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Popo Molefe
Premier (North West Province)
