The Minister for Public Service and Administration Adv. Ngoako Ramatlhodi accompanied by the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI) Executive Director, Ms Thuli Radebe, will on Friday, 28 October 2016 unveil the 14th Annual CPSI Public Sector Innovation Awards winners at the Emperors Palace, in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province at 18:00 pm.

The CPSI is a government component within the Ministry of Public Service and Administration established to entrench and nurture the culture of innovation in the public sector.

The role of the CPSI is primarily to function as an enabler, facilitator and champion for innovative ideas.  This involves creating an enabling environment for the generation and rewarding of new ideas; facilitating engagements among public, private and non-governmental entities, with a view to establishing sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships and championing the value of and need for innovation within the public sector.

As part of its mandate, the CPSI holds the Annual Public Sector Innovation Awards programme which is now in its 14th year.

The Public Sector Innovation Awards Ceremony is a platform used to recognise and award all the exceptional innovative projects entered for this year’s edition of the awards programme. The CPSI will in partnership with the MTN Business, Capitec Bank, Eskom and GEMS honour this year’s winners. Projects will be awarded under the following categories:

  • Innovative Solutions Reducing the Cost of Delivering Services
  • Innovative use of ICTs for effective service delivery
  • Innovative Service Delivery Institutions (i.e. schools, hospitals, clinics, courts, police stations)
  • Innovative Enhancements of Internal Systems of Government

The category winners will then compete for the coveted Public Sector Innovator of the Year Award.

This year the CPSI has introduced the GEMS Health Sector Innovation Award which will be conferred by GEMS.

The annual Public Sector Innovation Awards promote and encourage best practices in public sector innovation and celebrate the successes of individuals and teams at all spheres of government. The programme also serves as a tool for expanding innovation and encouraging others to innovate for improved service delivery.

The awards programme further serves as an important conduit for entry into the prestigious international awards programmes such as the All Africa Public Sector Innovation Awards (AAPSIA) and the Africa Association for Public Administration Management (AAPAM) Awards.
