Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor will deliver an address at the 18th National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) Awards gala dinner on 30 June 2016. Over 500 guests, including high-ranking officials and executives across all sectors of the NSTF membership, members of the diplomatic corps and award finalists will attend.
The awards are the most significant science, engineering, technology and innovation (SETI) awards in South Africa. Sponsored by South32, among others, the NSTF Awards honour outstanding contributions to SETI by encouraging and rewarding excellence in –
- individual research, including the management of research activities aimed at innovation;
- environmental sustainability (green economy);
- the application of scientific and technological knowledge, including technology transfer, education and training (this category is for NGOs);
- research or engineering capacity building;
- communication and outreach.
This year's awards theme ties in with the United Nations' International Year of Pulses, and a special award will be made for research in crop science and food security.
