The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Zweli Mkhize will address a special gala dinner of the South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) in honour of Professor Stanislaus Skumbuzo Mzilankatha Sangweni and Dr Zola Sideny Themba Skweyiya (Posthumous). Both Leaders will be honoured with SAAPAM’s highest recognition, the Life-time Achievement Award.
Both Prof Sangweni and Dr Skweyiya enjoyed illustrious public service careers and were respectively the founding senior government officials and members of the national executive tasked with the establishment and functioning of the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA).
Prof Sangweni was a founding Chairperson of Public Service Commission, a position he held from 1994 until 2009 when he retired, while Dr Skweyiya served as a minister of Public Service and Administration in 1994, before he was moved to Department of Social Development in 1999. He served in the South African government for 15 years in both parliament and cabinet.
