Minister Mildred Oliphant addresses 11th Annual African Regional Labour Administration Centre meeting of Directors-General, 12 to 14 Oct

South Africa through the Department of Labour is to host the 11th Annual African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) meeting of Permanent Secretaries/ Directors-General.

The ARLAC meeting provides participants with a unique opportunity to explore key issues in labour administration and labour policy development.

South Africa’s Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant will deliver the official opening address at 9am on Monday. The three-day ARLAC will be held at the Holiday Inn Marine in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. It will start on October 12-14.

ARLAC is an organisation with its own Governing Council, comprising of Ministers of Labour from nineteen (19) English speaking countries in Africa. It was founded in 1974 and is supported by the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations Development Programme. In the recent Governing Council meeting South Africa offered to host the meeting of Permanent Secretaries/Directors-General of ARLAC member states including five from observer countries.

The meeting of Permanent Secretaries/Directors-General is convened annually to resolve issues emanating from the discussion of the Governing Council and prepare for the next seating of the forum and ensure effective management of ARLAC through deliberating on topical issues that affect the institution.

ARLAC amongst others endeavor to provide training for officials at all levels of the labour administration system, provide consultancy and advisory services directed towards strengthening labour administration systems in member countries; undertake studies and research in all aspects of labour administration and provide information services for the benefit of member countries
