Members of the media are invited to the launch of the 6th Iteration of the Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) 2014/15-2016/17 that will be hosted by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies:

Date                : Monday, 7 April 2014

Time              : 10:00

Venue             : Industrial Development Corporation (IDC)
                           19       Fredman Drive, Sandown

The major achievements of IPAP in the past years have been to stabilise the manufacturing sector, grow important parts of it, prevent de-industrialisation and limit job losses in the sector. Key highlights include:

·         Developing supportive industrial financing instruments, including the Manufacturing Competitiveness Enhancement Programme (MCEP) and re-oriented and targeted Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) funding
·         Putting in place mechanisms to leverage public procurement for the competitive manufacture of inputs into major areas of public infrastructure and expenditure including rail rolling stock, pharmaceuticals, and clothing and textiles.

·         Attracting multi-billion rand investment into automotive assembly and component production.

·         Turning around the fortunes of the clothing, textiles and footwear sectors and stabilising employment.

The plan represents a continuous consolidation and strengthening of concrete industrial policy interventions as underpinned by the National Industrial Policy Framework (NIPF) and also finds expression in the key pillars set out in the New Growth Path (NGP). The Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) 2014/15 – 2016/17 is the last iteration under the current administration.

RSVPs should be forwarded to Tshilidzi Madinani via telephone 012 394-1399/079 879 5525 or e-mail: TMadinani@thedti.gov.za
