Journalists are invited to a news briefing on the orientation of recently appointed hospital Chief Executive Officers(CEOs). These CEOs were appointed as part of the overhauling and re-engineering of the public health system in accordance with the ten-point plan of the National Department of Health (NDoH).

Details of the event:
Date: Monday, 4 February 2013
Venue: Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg

Media is also invited to the morning session 10h00 to 13h00

Media briefing at 11h30.

On 1 February, 102 CEOs of central, tertiary, regional and district hospitals will commence work in their new positions. This orientation programme will allow these leaders to affirm their critical role, assess needs, discuss common potential problems to be addressed, and identify critical areas and mechanisms of support and development.

Although most of these CEOs have not been in similar positions before, they nevertheless represent a wide spectrum of experience of leadership and management in the health care system. This collective experience represents a valuable resource in any development programme, as well as in peer support.

The 102 CEOs will undergo a five-day orientation programme with the full support of the Academy for Leadership and Management in the Health Sector which was launched by the Minister of Health November 2012 under the auspices of the National Department of Health and the Minister’s Advisory Committee.

It is Minister’s vision that such support be provided right from the start, and has committed to providing the group with an overview, as well as a short orientation programme.

The goals of the orientation programme are thus as follows:
1. to inspire and encourage this group of leaders
2. to present major issues for consideration by CEOs
3. to share experiences and best practices
4. to identify CEO expectations, needs and concerns
5. to facilitate a process of planning, teamwork and support.

Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Health, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, Deputy Minister of Health and Ms Precious Matsoso, Director-General of National Department of Health will brief the media.
