The Province of KwaZulu-Natal has in the recent past experienced the rise of illegal dump sites which have a potential to contaminate drinking water for communities and disrupt natural processes.

This has prompted the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Sihle Zikalala and municipalities to develop a multi-pronged programme aimed at curbing illegal dumping in different parts of the province.

The province-wide programme will involve providing necessary facilities for transporting waste to legal dump sites  and as well as promoting public awareness about the dangers of illegal dumping.

As part of the programme, Mr Zikalala and the Mayor of Umdoni Local Municipality, Cllr Thabani Dube will on Tuesday intervene to resolve the issue of an illegally-operated dump site in the rural Amanda community near Scott burgh, on the South Coast.
