Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Molebatsi Bopape will outline her plans to empower and transform the lives of disadvantaged youths from townships and settlements around Gauteng through the Operation Mabaleng project, to be launched at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto this Thursday (22 January 2015).

Bopape is expected to be joined by project partners and sponsors, including senior local government representatives, at the launch of the provincial flagship venture that intends to build and renovate 10 multi-purpose centres in various sites across the province over the next five years.

The MEC said: “We acknowledge that there are shortages of sporting facilities for our people particularly in deprived townships, informal settlements and rural areas around Gauteng.

Starting with the area of Westbury during this calendar year, through Operation Mabaleng we are set to construct fully equipped multi-purpose facilities that will engage the youth through sport activities such as football, netball, cricket and other sporting codes.”
