MEC Donald Grant briefs media on interventions to curb road deaths, 3 Mar

The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) in partnership with the Historic Schools Restoration Project (HSRP) will tomorrow 3 March 2015 handover the newly constructed Ilanga Building in Healdtown, Alice at 10h00. 

The construction of this school complex’s wing is part of resuscitating Healdtown as the historic centre of excellence and in recognition of the role of the historical schools towards development of the moral, political and social fibre of the present day.  In addition, constructing this state of the art building was made possible by a donation from the South African Goldfields.

Leading the entourage gracing the event will be retired South African Anglican bishop, Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndugane, Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masualle, MEC Mandla Makupula, South African Goldfields’ contingent and alumnus of this school who include University of Fort Hare’s Vice-Chancellor, Doctor Mvuyo Tom and the former Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg Professor Loyiso Nongxa. 

These developments also highlight the mission of the HSRP which is to: To revitalise the rich heritage of the historical schools and transform them into sustainable and aspirational African institutions of educational and cultural excellence.
