Labour resumes M1/Grayston Drive Pedestrian and cyclist structural bridge collapse Inquiry

An expert witness representing Form-Scaff is set to continue with his testimony when the M1/Grayston Drive Pedestrian and cyclist structural bridge collapse Inquiry appointed by the Department of Labour resumes its work on Monday (29 August).

Gary Farrow, a mechanical engineer from Australia, is an expert witness testifying on behalf of FormScaff, a company that provides an array of products and services to a range of construction and civil engineering industries. He will continue on his previous testimony when he was cross-examined on the contracts, configuration of temporary structures, and modelling.

Farrow was accused of being biased towards FormScaff, a jibe he dismissed as untrue. He had further told the Commission that his mandate was configuration of the temporary structure to ascertain the causes of collapse.

The next sitting of the Inquiry which start on Monday will continue (only on week days) until 06 September 2016.

The inquiry is presided by Lennie Samuel, assisted by Lesibe Raphela. It was set-up to investigate the collapse of the temporary scaffolding structure on the M1/Grayston Drive, that led to the death of two people and injury to 19 others. The Section 32 investigation is being held in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

The Inquiry is held as follows:

Venue: Department of Labour offices (Labour Centre) at Concillium Building, Nana Sita (formerly Skinner Street) and Thabo Sehume (Andries Street) in Pretoria/Tshwane.
Time: 10h00 (only on Mondays, and 9h00 on other days)
Date: 29 August to 6 September 2016

Public parking is available at Nana Sita between Paul Kruger and Thabo Sehume Streets, and at Francis Baard Street (formerly Schoeman) between Paul Kruger and Thabo Sehume Streets.
