The
Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mohammed Valli
Moosa, has announced that over a million tourists visited the
Kruger National Park between April 2002 and 8 March 2003.
"This is a first for the Park in all its years of existence," Moosa
reported.
Tourism authorities also predicted that the number of visitors to
the Park would increase to 1 040 000 by the end of the current
financial year, which ends on March 31. That would represent an
increase of 11,4% on the previous financial year.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of new tourism statistics
showing significant growth in 2002, with more than 6,4-million
tourists travelling to South Africa last year. This was a massive
20,1% up on the 1,8-million visitor arrivals in 2001.
