The meeting will look at the foundation’s strategic objective in a democratic context and will review the operations and projects of the foundation, which aims at transforming the lives of young people.
It will be the first gathering since the establishment of the foundation and will bring together close to a hundred student and youth leaders – those who were present on June 16, 1976, and those that emerged later.
“Considering that this is the 30th anniversary of June 16, we felt that it would be relevant for all us to come together in preparing for this day. But it is also very important for the foundation because we need to sharpen our strategic objective and ensure that we look at many other ways of remembering this important day, and not only wait for anniversaries each year,” said founder member and trustee of the June 16, Foundation Titi Mthenjane.
Former teacher at Morris Isaacson during the June 16 1976, uprising Fanyana Mazibuko will also present a paper.
Among others who will participate in this weekend’s meeting are: Popo Molefe (former Premier of the North-West), Murphy Morobe (head of communications: Office of the President), Admiral Modimo, Billy Masetlha, Dan Montsisi (parliamentary portfolio committee: education), the mayors of Ekurhuleni and Mogale City, and Stone Sizane (former MEC: education, Eastern Cape).
