The PSEE’s involvement in energy efficiency in South Africa since December 2013:

The PSEE, a programme of the National Business Initiative (NBI), has to date identified over 4 630 energy efficiency opportunities in 742 companies across South Africa thus far, equating to total potential annual and lifetime savings of 1 027 and 11 809 gigawatt-hours (GWh) respectively.
This includes savings from strategic energy management interventions at 11 of the 37 large companies that the PSEE has engaged with (i.e. companies with an annual energy spend in excess of R45m) thus far, as well as from on-site surveys conducted at more than 70042 medium-sized businesses. A total of around 2 400 companies have also registered on the PSEE website to utilise various online and telephonic support services and resources.

About the PSEE:

The PSEE is a programme of the National Business Initiative (NBI), which was awarded £8.6-million (more than R150-million) by the UK Government through its Department for International Development (DFID) to implement the PSEE as a countrywide programme of support for energy efficiency improvement in the private sector. The programme is supported by the South African Department of Energy and technical support is provided by the Carbon Trust, leveraging its experience of similar programmes in the UK.  The NBI is a voluntary coalition of South African and multinational companies committed to working towards sustainable growth and development in South Africa.
