Approximately two-thousand (2000) learners of all ages and different school grades, including unemployed graduates, are expected to attend the *International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD)celebrations, taking place on 6 – 7 December 2019 at Polokwane International Airport, Limpopo Province, South Africa.

The ICAD 2019 theme is “75 years of connecting the world”.

For the first time since ICAD was celebrated in South Africa, all Department of Transport entities will be show-casing their products and services at the event, including career and bursary programmes.

The main objective of the two-day event, which will include an airshow, is to create aviation career awareness to the province’s learners and youth, who are deemed previously marginalized because of lack of access to resources, such as aviation-related information and opportunities.

It is a fact that some of the *major economic hubs in South Africa attract and offer youth and graduates from remote and rural areas excellent training and study, as well as employment opportunities. They become professionals in their own right and some, if not all, make such metropolitan cities their homes. It has been ICAD’s mission to present such *aviation professionals to learners, in order to encourage them to follow careers available within the aviation industry. It is a single selfless act of giving back to their own communities.

To date, over 20 000 learners nationally have beneffitted immersely from ICAD-related initiatives and programmes. One of the successful projects is the *Joint Aviation Awareness Programme (JAAP).

Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula  is expected to deliver a key-note address at an event which will see a number of senior national and provincial government officials attending.
