The Inkatha Freedom Party's National Executive Committee (NEC) has registered its concern with the SABC, who have seemingly backtracked on recent announcements that it will henceforth aim to be an independent and impartial news provider. The IFP's Youth Day rally held on the 16th of June 2018 at Curries Fountain in Durban is case in point.

While all other main political parties received fair coverage, the SABC chose to ignore the massive IFP crowd that packed Curries Fountain, and instead showed the IFP President talking to himself, in a brief clip that was aired across various platforms.

Such coverage does not amount to responsible journalism and is a clear indication that the SABC intends to campaign against the IFP in the upcoming 2019 National and Provincial elections.

The SABC is meant to be a public broadcaster and should reflect all South African voices and opinions. The public broadcaster reaches the homes of millions of South Africans and it will therefore have a direct impact on the upcoming watershed elections.

The IFP has made contact with the SABC and we intend taking this matter further.
