IFP Local Government and Traditional Affairs spokesperson, Peter Smith MP
said,"Given the abject failure of the Department of Cooperative Governance and
Traditional Affairs as well as its provincial counterparts, to properly
monitor, capacitate and support municipalities over the past decade, it is
gratifying that someone in government is doing something to set minimum
standards".

The IFP therefore considers it a good move by Minister Collins Chabane to
set ground rules for municipalities to improve their performance and quality
service delivery to the people. Government really needs to look at how the
municipalities conduct their services and how they use their funds. We hope
this new project will also help in rooting out corruption in municipalities.
Quality service delivery should be a priority to all municipalities.

Smith concluded, "The Department of Local Governance and Traditional Affairs
should work with the Performance Monitoring Department in order to ensure
that the set ground rules by the Performance and Monitoring Department are
followed and obeyed."
