The IFP in KwaZulu Natal Legislature calls for clarity on how SASSA will
recover money lost due to unlawful debit deductions from the social grants
beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
"SASSA, the Department of Social Development and third parties must be held
accountable for the unlawful deductions and must compensate the victims
financially as soon as possible. It is the duty of SASSA to make sure that
their service providers cannot infiltrate and manipulate their payment
system," said IFP Spokesperson on Social Development, Mrs Ncamisile
Nkwanyana, MPL.
"Measures must be put in place to ensure that translators are present at pay
point to ensure they are able to communicate with beneficiaries in their
language in order to sow trust and confidence in the service providers, and
also to make sure that beneficiaries are at all times aware of exactly how
much money is being deposited in their accounts," concluded Mrs Nkwanyana.
