The IFP is highly perturbed that it did not get relevant answers from the
Chairperson of the KZN Legislature's Standing Committee on Public Accounts
(Scopa), Maggie Govender regarding the IFP’s stance that NFP leader, Mrs
kaMagwaza-Msibi should appear before Scopa to explain expenditures during
her tenure as Zululand District Municipality Mayor. Instead ANC officials
responded.

"Officials in the ANC KwaZulu-Natal Caucus are not spokespersons for Scopa,
therefore why are they have answering on behalf of it? They have not been
elected as Chairperson of Scopa and they have not even been elected as
MPL's. We demand answers from the Chairperson of Scopa, not from ANC
officials," said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala.

"For the record, let’s remember that it was Scopa, after all, who instructed
KaMagwaza-Msibi to appear before the committee to investigate the matter,
but only junior officials were sent.  Why has Scopa shifted from its
position?" asked Mr Gwala.

"We reiterate our call to the Chairperson of Scopa to finalise a date with
the NFP leader as a matter of urgency or, failing that to formally summons
her to appear before the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) in
the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature regarding irregular expenditure of funds at
Zululand District Municipality," continued Mr Gwala.

“The IFP will keep applying pressure on the Chairperson of Scopa to ensure
that all irregular expenditures are dealt with in a non-partisan manner,” Mr
Gwala concluded.
