The IFP welcome the appointment of former Health MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe as new
Limpopo education MEC.

"We call on the MEC to address the issue of sanitation backlog in most schools
in Limpopo. One of the schools that needs urgent attention is Masugi Primary
School in Bungeni, where pupils are forced to relieve themselves in the bushes
as a result of the dilapidated and dangerous state of their toilets. Contractors
left the school's four classrooms and toilets incomplete. This situation
violates learners' rights to education," said IFP National Spokesperson on
Education, Mr Alfred Mpontshane, MP.

"Government must finish the incomplete toilets and classrooms without delay. The
MEC must appoint a contractor to complete the outstanding work. The contractor
who was given the tender to do the initial work must be held accountable and be
liable to pay back the money paid to their company, due to the failure to
complete the work," continued Mr Mpontshane.

"We urge the MEC to work hard to minimise pregnancies in schools. Our message to
MEC Kgetjepe is that we do not want to see young people loitering in the
streets. He must work with all stakeholders to fight against drug abuse and
violence in our schools. We trust that he will work hard in helping schools
achieve a 100 percent pass rate in the province," concluded Mr Mpontshane.

The IFP urge the MEC to also conduct an audit on how many learners are in need
of scholar transport in Limpopo and also schools in need of new infrastructure
and sanitation.
