The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal demands answers from the KZN Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni
Dhlomo and the Head of Department Dr Sibongile Zungu about dodgy dealings around
the R61 million mobile clinic tender.

"We want to know how Mzansi Lifecare and Mobile Satellite Technologies won
tenders to provide four mobile health units to the department but only two of
the units have been delivered. Dr Sibongile Zungu must tell us how she approved
the tender as Mzansi Lifecare was registered 17 days before the department
published a request for information for provision of universal mobile units," said IFP Spokesperson on Health, Mrs Ncamisile Nkwanyana, MPL.

"Both the MEC and the Head of Department must be held accountable in this
matter. They must further tell us how the bid evaluation committee and the bid
adjudication committee reached the conclusion that Mzansi Lifecare's bid was the
best one and how many companies submitted bids to provide the mobile hospital
units. These questions must be answered. To prove that there is corruption in
this matter is the admission by Mobile Satellite Technologies that it did not
know that it had won the tender for three vehicles because it had been asked to
provide just one vehicle. There is evidence that the department could have
purchased the unit outright from a US company for R12.5million instead of
leasing from Mzansi Lifecare for R52.5million," continued Mrs Nkwanyana.

"That's why we always re-iterate our call for Dr Sibongile Zungu to be fired. We
don't trust her as the HOD if things like this can happen under her watch. If
she is not involved in this scandal she must provide all the facts around this
tender and clear her name," concluded Mrs Nkwanyana.

The IFP will write to the Public Protector to investigate this matter. It will
also write to the MEC of Health demanding all the documents concerning this
tender including the list of bidders.
