The Inkatha Freedom Party wholly supports the Republic of China (Taiwan) in their request for participation in INTERPOL’s General Assembly this year, and going forwards, in respect of their participation at all INTERPOL meetings, mechanisms and training activities.

Crime and the fight against crime is a transnational and a global challenge which requires multilateral and efficient cooperation. As the world’s 22nd largest economy, and 17th largest exporter as well as its strategic geopolitical position, it is imperative that Taiwan be allowed to participate in the activities of INTERPOL.

For some 34 years now, and mainly due to political factors, the Republic of China (Taiwan) has been excluded from INTERPOL. This has been to the exclusive detriment of INTERPOL and to its global partner’s ambitions of successfully preventing and combatting transnational crime.

In today’s world of the internet and cybercrime, the challenges are even more so compounded in effectively countering and combatting criminal enterprise in the global economy. Taiwan is major leader and innovator in such IT technology and would additionally add great value to the INTERPOL store of resources in this regard.

The IFP wholly supports the Republic of China (Taiwan) in their application and request for observer status in INTERPOL.
