The Inkatha Freedom Party has expressed its deep sadness, following yet another ‘black Sunday’ in South Africa’s roads when 46 passengers died in accidents that took place in Willowvale and Cradock in the Eastern Cape.

IFP Spokesperson on Transport Honourable KP Sithole said, “We would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. In this difficult time we are with the grieving families and pray together with them.”

“We call on the EC government to give their assistance where they possibly could and the national government to investigate the cause of these accidents, as these not only cost the people’s lives but also billions of rands from the tax payers. Negligence from traffic officials

must be condemned and bus owners need to foot the bill and assist the families. This must be regulated to minimise the scourge on our roads and to save the lives lost daily. We call on the President and the Minister of Transport to conduct forensic investigations nationally as road carnage cannot continue to claim the lives of our people,” added Hon Sithole.

“To all the drivers out there, they must exercise caution on the roads and obey rules of the road, especially when carrying so many lives. Passengers must also warn drivers should they suspect something and the traffic officials must accept no bribes and ensure they always have the interest of all road users in their hearts”, urged Hon Sithole.
