After the Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu) president Gilbert Mutubuki
has called on Zimbabwean youths to retaliate against xenophobic violence in
South Africa by attacking South African businesses operating in Zimbabwe, the
IFP calls for urgent interventions to prevent an escalation of violence across
the African continent.

"We further call for responsible actions from the government to address these
issues. When this country appears to be a no-go area for foreigners, it promotes
further acts of violence largely instigated by criminal elements," said IFP
National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala.

"We call for the international community's attention to the severe persecution
of foreign nationals. We demand that government must urgently launch a national
inquiry into violence against foreign nationals," continued Mr Gwala.

"We further call on government to create a National Action Plan to address
violence against foreign nationals and to launch an independent National Inquiry
into missing and murdered foreign nationals," concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP demands that President Zuma must engage with his Zimbabwean counterpart
Robert Mugabe to stop these claims made by the Zimbabwe National Students Union.
We also want to urge citizens on the African continent to remain calm and not to
retaliate with violence against any citizens.
