Humanity’s greatest moments are marked by a moral dilemma and here we are, at the prelude of a defining change. This Friday, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, after a year when, around the world, the politics of hate, fear and division too often blossomed.
On January 20th, Greenpeace Africa will join with allies and supporters to participate in a global movement sending a loud, clear message of connection over division: #BridgesNotWalls. It’s a scary time. A handful of political elites and corporate giants — including some of the biggest polluters on the planet — continue to win big as long as people are fearful and divided from one another.
“Africa’s time in the global arena as a spectator has come to an end. We are no longer standing on the sidelines, waiting for our destiny to be handed to us. The direct implications of this historic moment could have dire consequences that will affect bipartisan relations that have been carefully built over the years between Africa and the US.” said Njeri Kabeberi, Greenpeace Africa’s Executive Director.
“We stand in solidarity with the world to say we will act and not be complicit in the destruction of our environment, we will talk and not be silenced by our past, we will rise and not be buried by our seemingly overwhelming present.” continued Kabeberi.
