The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Hon. Ntombi Mekgwe will convene a special Sitting to debate and set a stance on xenophobic acts in Gauteng, which has been scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue: Selbourne Hall, Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Cnr Loveday and President

GPL is hugely concerned by ongoing outbreaks in the Province. This follows the peace march wherein the GPL alongside other Sectors and the Premier participated in on the 23rd April 2015. In response to the National outcry and as Gauteng Government, the Premier of Gauteng committed during his address, to pay special attention to immigrants and further setup as special unit that will focus on Immigration matters.
Expected to attend the Sitting are Diplomats, High Commissioners and Ambassadors from all African Countries based in Gauteng. The debate is intended to unpack the incongruities emanating from these acts and other related incidents thus; to find resolutions and commonalities on how the Provincial Legislature through its Oversight and Law-making mandates reach a common ground, in better dealing with these issues henceforth.
