GCIS: Department of Small Business Development honours techno-women in Northern Cape

The Department of Small Business Development, in partnership with the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism will host the 2015 Technology for Women in Business (TWIB) and Ligugu Lami Awards ceremony in Kimberly, Northern Cape Province.

(TWIB) and the Ligugulami ceremony will be held at Mittah Sperepere Convention Centre in Kimberly on the 5th November 2015.

In order to facilitate radical economic transformation through increased participation of small businesses in the mainstream economy, the TWIB Awards recognises women who excel in their businesses as a result of the use of the best suited-technology whilst the Ligugu lami serves as a feeder and also recognizes emerging women at a micro level who demonstrates great potential for growth and sustainability.

The Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe says the TWIB programme has unearthed the greatest talent in the past few years and is confident that this year’s finalists deserve the recognition and support from both the public and the private sector. “We have seen private companies play a critical role through supplier and enterprise development programmes which truly empowers our finalists and winners of both TWIB and Ligugu Lami. In this regard, we need more partnerships” exhumed Thabethe

TWIB was designed to assist women entrepreneurs access the applied science and technology required to propel their businesses into the mainstream economy.

“This year’s awards themed “Women Entrepreneurs Taking South Africa Forward through Technology” will be contested over three categories, namely the small business, very small, and micro-business categories,” says Thabethe.

The overall winner will take home a non-financial Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) Technology transfer intervention worth R600 000, the Black Business Supplier Development Programme (BBSDP) incentive worth R200 000 and a trip to the 2016 Global Summit for Women in Poland.

Nomshado Madonsela of Basadi Civil Construction (Mpumalanga)
Very Small Category
Salome Kwena of Big Sky Trading 333 T/A Excellence Motor Trimmer (Gauteng)
Premi Subramany of Chemsol (SA) Adhesive (Kwa Zulu-Natal)
Lydia Makatu of Vuwani Medical Solutions (Gauteng)
Micro-business Category
Annikie Malukuta of Malukuta Farming (Limpopo)
The awards ceremony will be preceded by a Women Entrepreneurs Network Conference/ Seminar that will be hosted from 8h00 in the morning at the same venue. The awards ceremony commences at 18h00.
