Gauteng celebrates Heritage Day in a Carnival spectacular

Following the funfair at the launch of the Gauteng Social Cohesion Carnival at the beginning of the month, the province can look forward to celebrating Heritage Day in style when the Carnival takes over the streets of the capital city, Tshwane on Saturday, 24 September 2016.

Organised by the Gauteng Provincial Government, City of Tshwane and the Carnival Company, over 20 000 participants will join in the colourful parade consisting of multitude of Africans cultures, Greeks, Italians, Chinese, Indians and all South African cultures will take part in the carnival .

The Gauteng Social Cohesion Carnival parade of about 5.6km parade will start at the Tshwane Events Centre and make its way around the Capital City before ending at the events centre.

The parade will start at 12:00 led by Premier David Makhura, MEC’s and diplomats from various participating countries.

“We are encouraging all residents of Gauteng and the surrounding areas to come out and celebrate Heritage Day with us. Given our history and recent events the time is ripe for South Africans to come together and celebrate our rich diversity.  This is a not-to-be-missed event that we hope to grow into one of Tshwane’s main tourist attractions as we entertain and educate visitors about our rich cultural heritage,” says MEC for Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation, Ms Faith Mazibuko.

The day will also be filled with a specular festival of food and live cultural dance with groups from Zimbabwe,Peru, Katanga and Youonnan. Also entertaining the crowd will be artists such as Ricky Rick, Mahotela Queens, Black Motion, Dj Shimza, Major League, Mercy Phakela, Gigi Lamaine and Carnival Dj ambassadors.

Meanwhile, media accreditation for the event is available for collection as of 22 and tomorrow 23 September 2015 on the following areas:

22 September 2016 – 35 Rissik Street, JHB, Surrey House(10:00 – 16:30)
23 September 2016 –35 Rissik Street, JHB, Surrey House  (10:00 – 12:00)
Pilditch 23 September 2016 – Tshwane Events Centre, Pretoria (14:00 -17:00)
The accreditation will allow members of the media access to the Tshwane Events Centre.
