The Khampepe commission report will be gazetted on May 5, the official opposition DA said on Monday.

Democratic Alliance Leader Helen Zille said the Presidency had written to the DA to inform it of the move."

Zille said the DA's promotion of access to information act (PAIA) had resulted in the release of the full Khampepe commission report.

"When the DA 's original PAIA application was rejected by the Presidency on March 27, the DA immediately lodged an appeal which has now led to the release of the report," Zille said.

Zille said the report was a crucial source of information for members of parliament and the public during the legislative process to decide on the future of the Scorpions.

She said all indications were that the report favoured retaining the Scorpions in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and its publication would make it harder for the ANC to justify dissolving the
unit.

Zille said ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe had told her that the ANC wanted to disband the Scorpions because of it's "high profile investigations" into ANC members.

ANC spokeswoman Jessie Duarte however said Mantashe did not say anything about the Scorpions investigating ANC members Duarte said Mantashe's concerns about the Scorpions involved their
prosecutory and investigative roles.

"The Secretary General is concerned about the separation of power in terms of the investigation and prosecution roles of the Scorpions," she said.

Duarte said Zille had " taken things out of proportion." Zille also said the DA was committed to keeping constitutional
democracy alive in South Africa.

"This is a role that the DA will continue to play when the legislation to disband the Scorpions comes before parliament. We will not let the Scorpions go without a big fight," Zille said.

Comment could not be obtained from the Presidency on the release of the full report.
