The new incumbents are Firoz Cachalia, former speaker of the Gauteng legislature; Dorothy Mahlangu, who has served on the National Council of Provinces since 1998; Bob Mabasho, the whip in the Gauteng legislature from 1994 to 2001 before being appointed chairman of the housing standards committee; and Barbara Creecy, MEC for sport, art, culture and recreation, was chairwoman of the education committee in the legislature since 2001.
MEC for health Gwen Ramakgopa is the only member to retain her portfolio.
The remaining five have all served as MECs in the last five years but are now responsible for new departments.
Paul Mashatile takes over from Jabu Moleketi as finance and economic affairs MEC. Moleketi is heading to national government as Deputy Finance Minister.
New MEC for agriculture, conservation and the environment, Khabisi Mosunkutu, who previously held the post of transport and public works, is joined by MEC for education Angelina Motshekga, formerly head of social services and population development.
MEC for housing will now be Nomvula Mokonyane, who was previously provincial safety and liaison MEC. The tenth member of the council is former MEC of education Ignatius Jacobs who now takes on the portfolio of public transport, roads and works.
