eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo is expected to table his 2016/17 budget speech at the Durban City Hall on Tuesday morning, the City said on Monday.
Municipal spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa said several hearings had been held across the city to ensure public participation regarding the R41.6bn budget.
Mthethwa said some of the concerns raised by the public were heard during an executive committee meeting on Monday.
"Fifteen hearings were held, covering all 103 wards, during April and May. The meetings were well attended, ranging from 150 to 5 000 attendees across the different venues."
Some of the concerns raised by residents included housing, roads, traffic calming measures, electricity, water, safety, security and sanitation, as well as parks and recreation.
Mthethwa said job creation and youth development were also a concern.
Deputy City Manager for Finance Krish Kumar said the concerns of residents were taken into consideration.
The City said several roads would be temporarily closed on Tuesday, including:
- Two lanes west of Dorothy Nyembe (Gardiner) Street and Samora Machel (Aliwal) will be closed off from 08:00 to 13:00;
- Two lanes will be closed on Anton Lembede (Smith) Street between Samora Machel (Aliwal) and Dorothy Nyembe (Gardiner) Street from 08:00 to 13:00;
- Two lanes on Dr Pixley kaSeme (West) Street between Dorothy Nyembe (Gardiner) Street and Samora Machel (Aliwal) Street.
