Eskom is progressing well with the maintenance of its power generating plant whilst supplying the country’s electricity needs. No load shedding is anticipated today.

Eskom’s Women Advancement Programme (EWAP) seeks to make deliberate and considered interventions to advance and deploy women in Eskom. The purpose of this programme is to create an environment conducive to unleashing women’s full potential in Eskom, a potential that has been constrained and stifled in the past, a potential that can benefit Eskom, in particular, and society, in general.

The Eskom Women Advancement Programme is a holistic approach aimed at "breaking the mould" that is based on perceptions about women that perpetuate misrepresentation of women in leadership roles and technical roles.

There are a number of challenges which women face in the workplace and some of those serve as barriers to their advancement .The representation of women in leadership and key technical roles is influenced by a multiple of factors amongst others societal pressures, the education system and the labour market.

Eskom believes that attracting, retaining and promoting women is critical to the success of our organisation. Having a rewarding career that offers growth and opportunity is an important aspect in many women's lives. Knowing one's strengths and taking steps to continually develop play a role in on-going career satisfaction.

The representation of women in leadership and key technical roles is influenced by a multiple of factors amongst others societal pressures, the education system and the labour. In order to deal with the root causes of under-representation it is therefore critical to have a holistic view of these barriers and ensure that the solutions cover a wide range of challenges.

Whilst Eskom has made major progress in the development and advancement of women in both technical and leadership roles, the harsh realities of under-representation still persist.

We will continue to provide regular updates on the state of the power system through various media platforms.
