STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF PUBLIC ENTERPRISES, A ERWIN, ON THE FINANCING STRATEGY FOR THE STATE OWNED ENTERPRISES, 20 October 2004
In his State of the Nation Address the President set out the intention to provide a five-year financing strategy for the State Owned Enterprises (SOEs). In view of the work that had to be done the Cabinet agreed that we should report before the end of October rather than the end of September. Cabinet today dealt with this matter.
Practicalities dictate that we will present the strategy in phases. If the projections are to be reasonably accurate and realistic we have to ensure that policy, financial and operational dimensions of the investments are in place. This will be illustrated as we set out the phase one situation for our two largest SOEs
