The Gauteng province received eleven unqualified audits, two clean, one qualified and a disclaimer audit for 2009/10 financial year, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane said on Wednesday.
"The auditor-general's report demonstrated that there has been a discernible improvement in how departments comply with the tenets of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and governance issues," Mokonyane said addressing a press briefing in Johannesburg.
"This is attributed to the interventions made last year to improve compliance and accountability.
The office of the premier and treasury were the two departments that received clean audit reports. The Department of Health and Social Development received a disclaimer, the Infrastructure Development Department received a qualified report while eleven other departments received unqualified audit reports.
"We believe this will go a long way in building public confidence and accountability on how we spend public funds while improving service delivery and strengthening our democracy," Mokonyane said.
Auditor-General Terrence Nombebe said that compliance issues and Human Resources issues were to blame for the unqualified reports in the eleven departments.
Nombebe said that the disclaimer in the health and social development department was mainly due to "the diversity and complexity" of the department.
