The South African businesspeople who arrived in Lima today as part of the Outward Trade and Investment Mission (OTIM) will attend the Peru-South Africa Business Seminar that will be hosted by the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) in the capital city, Lima tomorrow.

The mission is led by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) with the aim of assisting the country’s manufacturers and exporters open a market for their value-added products and services in Peru and other countries in South America.

The Ambassador of South Africa to Peru, Ms Elsa Dry and the Ambassador of Peru to South Africa, Mr Nicolas Roncagliolo will address the seminar.

According to the International Trade Manager of CCL, Mr Carlos Garcia, the purpose of the seminar is to afford businesspeople from South Africa an opportunity to share ideas with the Peruvian businesspeople and in order to learn more from each other about trade and investments opportunities that are available for exploring in the two countries.

“Our chamber is the biggest trade promotion association in Peru and as a result, the seminar tomorrow will provide a perfect platform for the delegation from South Africa to interact with the country’s captains of industry. In addition to the myriad opportunities available for them in the fast-growing Peruvian economy, the delegation will also learn more about the business climate and the regulatory environment of Peru. This will go a long way in assisting the South Africans make decisions should they find export markets for their products or opportunities for investment or joint ventures and partnerships in Peru,” says Garcia.

He adds that the seminar is also one of his country’s efforts to strengthen ties with South Africa. He confirmed that a Peruvian business delegation will be participating in the Southern African International Trade Exhibition (Saitex) for the first time this year. The popular trade fair takes place in Johannesburg next month.

Topics that will be discussed in the seminar include Peru’s macro-economic situation, profiles of various sectors such as agro-processing and capital mining equipment, tariffs, barriers, logistics and other operational matters related to importing and exporting of products and services to and from Peru.

After the seminar, businesspeople will hold individual business-to-business meetings to discuss specifics of identified opportunities for trade or investment with the aim of bringing them closer to the level of concrete deals.
