The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, joins the Limpopo Provincial Government and the African National Congress family in passing condolences to the MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development in Limpopo, MEC Joy Matshoge, following the carnage that took place yesterday, evening, 25th June 2016.

The carnage took place on the N1, 10km away from the Nyle Plaza when the vehicle that the MEC was travelling on lost control and overturned. Law enforcement agencies are yet to determine the actual cause of the carnage. MEC Matshoge’s death comes at the time when the youth of South Africa gathered at St Georges Hotel in Irene, Pretoria, under the banner of the Department of Transport Youth Road Safety Summit, to contribute towards the development of the youth road safety strategy and plan. This contribution by young people will contribute towards the National Road Safety Strategy.

“I would like to say today, as we pay tribute to this fallen heroine who has fallen in the line of duty, in our hearts we know that she remains a heroine in heaven, but we will always remember her unselfish sacrifice in serving the people of Limpopo and South Africa in general” relayed the Minister.

MEC Joy Matshoge has been appointed new Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Limpopo Agriculture and Rural Development Department on the 23rd May 2014 to head the Agriculture portfolio in the Executive Council of Limpopo led by Premier Stan Mathabatha.

Minister Peters further said that it is never easy to find the right words in trying to reflect the meaning of something like losing a loved one. Yet, we all understand and can relate to the pain and sorrow that comes with the sudden loss of a loved one. The Minister emphasised that government will continue with efforts to fight the carnages on our roads.

In extending her condolences to the family, Minister Peters said “To the MEC Matshoge’s family, I understand and empathise with your loss, but gain solace and comfort in that your loved one bowed out gracefully whilst fulfilling one of the civic responsibilities of representing the people of Limpopo, the ANC and South Africans in general by volunteering her services as a Member of the Executive Council. May her soul rest in peace.
