Title: Didiza: Inauguration of Agricultural Research Council board
members
INAUGURATION SPEECH OF THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS OF THE ARC, BY THE
MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND LAND AFFAIRS, MS THOKO DIDIZA, 30 June
2003
I would like to start by thanking the chairperson, Mr T Setiloane,
together with the deputy chairperson - both of the previous
Agricultural Research Council board - for the wonderful work done
for the past three years. In difficult limited times which they
have, they managed to transform the ARC to where it is today.
Although transformation is an on going process, the previous board
managed to put the divisional structure in place, and as I speak
now the process of appointing the executive management has been
completed.
It is also my humble pleasure to welcome those who have been
appointed to the ARC board to the total governance of this
organisation. In terms of the provisions of the act, you were
considered for appointment by virtue of your knowledge and
experience of agriculture, marketing, the training of
agriculturists and veterinarians, business and financial
management, the law, the environment and rural development.
The objectives of the ARC are to promote agriculture and industry
through research, development and technology transfer, and thereby
to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the
people of the Republic, and having regard to the protection of the
environment to perform such other functions as may be assigned to
the ARC by or under the Act. The board has therefore been appointed
to promote the ARC vision and mission statement.
I am happy to introduce the following appointees to the ARC board:
