The Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Prof. Hlengiwe Mkhize, MP, in partnership with the South African Communications Forum (SACF), will host a breakfast session and launch the South African Women in ICT Forum in Johannesburg.
The South African Women in ICT Forum is an initiative that will seek to identify platforms that will empower women and enable them to mentor each other and share insights about the information communications technology sector.
The launch of this Forum takes place at a period when the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services, together with industry partners, has placed the participation of women in the ICT sector at the centre through the Cabinet endorsed policy, South Africa Connect.
The ICT industry has acknowledged that there is a need to develop formal support structures to attract and retain women in the ICT sector through mentorship programmes, scholarships and internships. Through key flagship programmes such as Techno-girl, the Forum envisages to be a lever for exposing young women from an early age into the ICT industry.
The Deputy Minister will deliver the keynote address and thereafter there will be panel discussions from industry experts on key matters that pertain to the ICT sector.
