The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Mme Rejoice Mabudafhasi will hand over 400 school desks to Litshovhu Secondary School on Friday 24 October 2014, in Madombidzha village, Makhado Local Municipality. The Limpopo MEC for Education, Mme Thembi Nwendamutswu, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mme Nandi Ndalane, Vhembe District Mayor, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe and Mayor of Makhado Local Municipality, Cllr Mutavhatsindi, will join the Deputy Minister during the handing over ceremony.

The Deputy Minister has adopted Litshovhu Secondary School, after the school principal, Mr TT Mulaudzi, wrote a letter requesting her to assist in addressing the following needs: school desks, library, classrooms, computers, sport grounds, etc. In response to the letter the Deputy Minister commissioned a needs assessment exercise at the school which indicated that the classes are over-crowded, the desks are damaged and other learners sit on the floor, hence she prioritised the provision of the 400 school desks in preparation for the matric final year exams due to start in a few days.

In pursuit of promoting national identity, nation building and social cohesion as well as to instil the spirit of patriotism and the love for our country, the Deputy Minister’s visit to Litshovhu will include the hoisting the national flag as part of the Flag in Every School programme of the Department of Arts and Culture.

The handing over of these desks and the hoisting of the national flag will be incorporated with the Shining Stars Matric Fridays campaign of the Department of Education in Limpopo. This campaign encourages the broader community, including the political leadership of government, legislatures, government officials, taxi drivers, education ambassadors including Skeem Saam cast members, to wear school uniform on Fridays. The objective of this initiative is to encourage communities to support learners as they approach their final examinations and send a clear message to learners that the nation is behind them and they should work hard without any distractions or disturbances.
