The Department of Labour’s Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch will hold a two-day major seminar for the Wholesale and Retail sector at the Strand Tower Hotel in Cape Town.
The seminar, from 28-29 June 2016 is part of the Department of Labour’s IES education advocacy campaign to highlight compliance with the labour laws within the Wholesale and Retail sector in South Africa’s workplaces.
The seminar is held under the theme: “Working together to achieve compliance in the Wholesale & Retail Sector”. The previous time the department held a similar seminary was in 2013 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The two-day seminar is expected to be addressed by Department of Labour Deputy Director-General, Aggy Moiloa; Department of Labour Statutory Service and Advocacy Chief Director Fikiswa Mncanca; Department of Labour’s Employment Standards Director, Stephen Rathai; and Public Employment Services Chief Director, Esther Tloane.
There will also be speakers from the Department of Labour’s two entities - the Unemployment Insurance Fund, the Compensation Fund, the Occupational Health and Safety unit, the International Labour Organisation, employer organisation and labour federations.
The seminar’s topics will focus on the challenges faced by the sector in relation to compliance, challenges on employment of illegal immigrants in the Wholesale and Retail Sector, relationship between application for work permit and scarce and critical skills, and transforming informal to formal economy among others.
