The Democratic Alliance (DA) has embarked on a voter registration drive for the 2016 local government elections.
DA Cape Town mayoral candidate Patricia de Lille kicked off the campaign with the unveiling of a registration poster on Wednesday.
De Lille said posters would be rolled out across Cape Town to encourage all South Africans to register to vote.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa was due to hold its first voter registration weekend on March 5 and 6.
De Lille said that by registering to vote, South Africans would be exercising their democratic right.
"We encourage everyone to work with us over the next few months and to communicate with their families, neighbours and fellow South Africans by sharing the responsibility of registering to vote."
De Lille said the future of the country depended on voting for good and clean governance.
Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) has dispatched its top brass to the Western Cape this week in preparation for the elections.
Party leaders, including President Jacob Zuma, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, secretary general Gwede Mantashe and various others have been conducting door-to-door campaigns, and hosting various meetings from Wednesday.
The ANC programme was expected to end on Sunday.
