On 6 January 2020 the DA in Mantsopa tabled a request to Council, asking that an investigation be launched into allegations of misconduct by the Mantsopa Municipal Manager, Mr. Thamae Masejane (See attachment).
On Friday 2 February, the request was agreed to and was unopposed. This is an overwhelming show of support for the DA's request and marks a momentous turn of events.
The DA has always met resistance in Council in every point that we raised, no matter how valuable the point was to the governance of Mantsopa Municipality.
We will closely be watching the roll-out of this process, which now starts with the Mayor having to write to the MEC, requesting that he launches an investigation into Mr. Masejane, by appointing an independent investigator to look into the allegations and bring, within 30 days, to council a report into these allegations.
By demanding this investigation we are exercising our responsibility as the opposition party, representing our communities and upholding the law. We demand that the Municipal Manager be held accountable for the poor level of service delivery and every aspect that leads to the reasoning of fact.
