The presidency on Sunday dismissed reports that President Jacob Zuma refused to fly in his official aircraft Inkwazi for fear of sabotage of the aircraft.

The presidency said it was “disturbed by yet another misleading story in Naspers titles” about Zuma’s aircraft and flights.

It said the president didn’t refuse to fly in any aircraft as reported instead they requested that a reliable aircraft be made available on 23 May 2016 in order to avoid another inconvenience too soon after Qatar.

South Africa is on an "almost inevitable" path to junk status without a large enough crisis to jolt it into gear and engender fundamental change in how things are done, said Nomura emerging markets economist Peter Attard Montalto.

He explained that it was a story of the grinding underperformance of an economy held back by uncertainty, lack of policy cohesion, lack of key reforms and frequent policy mistakes.

With S&P's rating update for South Africa due on June 3, Montalto said that ratings agencies "were not the fastest moving entities, and SA was not the most dramatic 'flash bang, fiscal cliff, sudden stop, recession' story".

The DA will lodge a formal complaint with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (or Icasa) about the SABC’s refusal, once again, to air the DA’s election advertisements, the party said yesterday.

DA national spokesperson Phumzile van Damme said the SABC had informed the DA that it had no available slots for political advertisements at this time due to delays in the IEC’s work with respect to the elections.

She said this was nothing but a poor excuse by the SABC in order to censor the DA’s political advertisement as had become standard during election time.
The DA will be lodging a formal complaint with Icasa.
