And, SA trade delegation arrives in China

The Democratic Alliance dismissed what it called "rumours and gossip" to a Sunday newspaper report that said the party was about to split.

The City Press, citing unnamed sources, said at least five senior MPs unhappy with the direction the party was taking under leader Mmusi Maimane were planning to form a breakaway party ahead of elections next year.

The report said the split came amid "serious tensions over race, transformation and other policy positions" under Maimane.

But the DA said in a statement that the party was "united and ready to bring change in 2019".

It called the reports nothing more than rumours and gossip and added that the story did not name any sources.

Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan told eNCA yesterday that discussions regarding the merger of three government airlines would continue this week with other relevant ministers.

South Africa has been abuzz with the potential consequences of merging Mango Airlines with SA Express and South African Airways. The airlines have each been pulled back from abysmal management in the past decade, as the case for owning a national airline comes under scrutiny.

Gordhan told eNCA that he would be having meaningful discussions with relevant colleagues in cabinet on how to go about merging the airlines. He said these discussions would commence within the next few days.

A South African delegation comprising of government officials from the trade and industry department and representatives of the special economic zones has arrived in China for the SEZs investment roadshow from May 28 to 30.

The roadshow is aimed at attracting investors to South Africa’s SEZs.

The roadshow would take the form of a seminar in which the South African SEZ delegation would make presentations on South Africa’s SEZ value-propositions, opportunities, and incentives for companies investing in the zones.

The targeted audience included investors, finance institutions, and government representatives.
