There is at least one thing on which the ANC and the DA agree: The killing of farmers and farm workers must stop.

When presenting his budget to Parliament, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Senzeni Zokwana asked for a moment of silence for farmers and farm workers who have lost their lives.

Zokwana said farmers and farm workers needed to be protected, amid cheers of "hear! hear!" from the DA benches.

He said the debates about agriculture should not be politicised and called for an end to racism.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to host an Africa Day Celebration at Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria today.

Africa Day was celebrated annually on May 25 to mark the formation of the Organisation of African Unity on May 25, 1963 and the African Union in 2002, as well as to chart the progress made by the continent since 1994.

The Democratic Alliance yesterday said it had “triumphed in yesterday’s by-election in Beaufort West’s Ward 7, retaining the ward and ensuring DA-led governance continues in the municipality”.

DA Western Cape acting leader Bonginkosi Madikizela said that voters in the Ward 7 by-election came out in their numbers to endorse the DA, growing our support from 46,8% in 2016 to 56,9% in the ward yesterday.

Madikizela said 660 more voters in this ward chose to vote DA compared to the last poll in 2016.
