The ANC has ordered Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and the Eskom board to rescind Brian Molefe’s return to the power utility as its CEO.

The party's top six summoned Brown to Luthuli House on Monday.

The DA approached the High Court in Pretoria on Monday, asking it to declare Molefe's reinstatement irrational and unlawful.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said the matter was referred to government to resolve, after ANC officials expressed their discomfort to Brown.

The South African Federation of Trade Unions is shocked by former mining minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi’s allegation that Eskom CEO Brian Molefe and chairperson Ben Ngubane tried to pressure him to help the Guptas take over Glencore’s Optimum coal mine in 2016.

Saftu’s secretary general, Zwelinzima Vavi, yesterday said that these latest revelations demonstrate dramatically how deep the rot of corruption has seeped into South African society.

Ramatlhodi said he met Molefe and Ngubane in 2015, at the chairperson’s insistence.

The ANC is not likely to approve any expropriation of land from white farmers without paying compensation, the agriculture minister said yesterday after President Jacob Zuma mooted such an idea.

Faced with opposition mainly from ANC's urban base, Zuma appealed to the rural poor in February with promises to seize land without paying the owners and then handing it out.

Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana said the ANC was unlikely to back such a policy at a party conference in June and July, particularly given government efforts to attract investment.
