South African National Roads Agency Limited (or Sanral) finance Director General, Lungisa Fuzile told Parliament on Tuesday that the agency can only survive for six months without the Gauteng freeway toll revenue.
Fuzile also told parliament that this could only happen through major sacrifices and only for a very limited time.
He stressed, however, that government would step in should Sanral fail to make payments.
International mediator Kofi Annan says the world cannot allow Syria to descend into full-scale civil war.
He says military activities in Syria have declined somewhat, but the level of violence remains unacceptable, marked by a spate of recent bombings.
Annan says the consequences of the peace plan he brokered failing, could be devastating.
Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi says it’s too late to try and change his department’s audit outcome for the 2011-2012 financial year.
He says positive results from the department could only be expected by mid-year, when the Interim Audit results are presented by the Auditor General.
He notes that some of the priorities for the department during 2012-2013 will include the Expanded Public Works Programme, its public entities, capital projects and the department's turnaround strategy.
